The new home for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will be the first new building on the Union Street Green of Ohio University’s Athens Campus. This new facility will be a transformational, modern-medical education building for the University and for the nation.

The new HCOM facility will be approximately 126,000 gross square feet and provide space for medical education, clinical assessment and training, student support spaces, administrative space, space for future growth, and a Learning Resource Center. The program of space requirements for the new building has been created to support new curriculum for the college. The space planning and design will enhance the changing curricula and emerging learning technologies.

The design will incorporate osteopathic principles to healthcare delivery, multi-disciplinary teams for learning and problem solving, and integrate holistic care principles.

The project will be designed with environmentally sustainable features, including locally sourced and environmentally friendly materials, furnishings, and systems to meet the US Green Building Council’s LEED Silver Version 4. The new building will also become WELL Building Certified; the leading tool for advancing health and well-being in buildings globally.

DesignGroup in collaboration with Perkins + Will are the design professionals for this project. G. Stephens, Inc. is providing CM services as a sub-consultant of Donley’s, Inc. During the construction phase, GSI will provide project engineering services along with a superintendent to coordinate interior trades work.
