This ODOT LPA/City of Akron project encompassed the decommissioning of SR 59/Akron Innerbelt from Cedar Street to the Main Street/Howard Street intersection. The project opened up 30 acres for the redevelopment of the Oak Park neighborhood. After completion of the project, Dart and Rand Avenues became the access points for downtown Akron ingress and egress. The project required close coordination of Maintenance of Traffic with downtown businesses and hospitals. Major elements of the project included:

• Widening and reconstruction of Dart and Rand Avenues

• Lowering of the Main Street/Howard Avenue/ MLK Blvd. intersection

• Removal of the State Street bridge

• Widening and reconstruction of the Cedar Street bridge

• New Traffic Signals and Street Lighting

• New Storm Sewer and Water Lines

GSI served as the Construction Manager for the City of Akron as their authorized representative in managing and administering the construction contract. GSI’s responsibilities as Construction Manager included: Project Management, Project Scheduling, Budget Control, Progress Meetings, Pay Applications, Document Controls, Construction Inspection, Daily Reports and Monthly Progress Reports.
